Painting week in the Draa valley and Djebel Sahro, Southern Morocco.

Sunday 18th May – Sunday 25th May 2025

Set in the spectacular landscape of southern Morocco our venue has been thoughtfully selected for qualities that inspire contemplation and creativity, a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding unspoilt landscape and Moroccan villages.

The course welcomes all levels of artistic talent, from experienced painters to complete beginners. Mornings and afternoons will be spent painting in and around the Kasbah and palmerie as well as painting and drawing excursions to the Djebel Sahro mountain range, the kasbah at Tamnougalt, and a sketching visit to the Adgdz weekly souk.

Two afternoons will be spent painting the figure. One-to-one tuition will be provided throughout the week and a series of Illustrated talks on various aspects of painting and drawing will be given on four of the evenings.

Our venue for the week, exclusive to the group, will be Kasbah Azul, on the edge of the great Draa Valley palmerie oasis.

Accommodation and traditional Moroccan Cuisine are exceptional.

The course is limited to 10 painters. Painting partners welcome.

An immersive painting course with renowned artist Colin Watson focusing on landscape and figure painting in oils welcoming all abilities from complete novices to experienced painters in the luxury Ezzahra Estate Marrakech.

Ezzahra Estate will provide the setting for the morning and afternoon painting sessions on four days with painting and drawing excursions to the High Atlas mountains and monuments of Marrakech medina.

The week will include painting and drawing in the foothills and Berber villages of the High Atlas, a journey over the spectacular
Tizi-n-Test pass in the High Atlas, drawing in the souks and medina of Taroudant, painting excursion to a magnificent private walled garden in Taroudant, illustrated talks on painting and drawing from observation, and an evening of traditional Music from southern Morocco.

Royal Ulster Academy Gold Medal Award

Colin Watson was awarded the RUA Perpetual Gold Medal 2016 Prize for the best work by a member of the Academy sponsored by NIAVAC. The adjudicator this year was the painter and president of London's Royal Academy of Arts Christopher Le Brun.
